IB PYP

The IB Primary Years Programme at CIS

What is the Primary Years Programme?

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

It is defined by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject areas, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.

The IB Primary Years Programme

  • addresses students’ academic, social and emotional well-being
  • encourages students to develop independence and to take responsibility for their own learning
  • supports students’ efforts to gain understanding of the world and to function comfortably within it
  • helps students establish personal values as a foundation upon which international-mindedness will develop and flourish.

An aim of the PYP is to create a transdisciplinary curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant for learners in the 3-12 age range. This is a challenging programme that demands the best from both motivated students and teachers. The IB Primary Years Programme prepares students to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning and provides the foundation for the Diploma Programme.

Cebu International School authorized to offer the PYP

On Tuesday, 31st May 2011, Cebu International School was informed that they had officially become a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

In January 2014, after two and a half years of preparation and a visit from IBO representatives in November 2013, CIS received authorization to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP is implemented in the Elementary School, from Preschool 3 to Grade 5.

CIS is very proud to be part of an elite group of schools in the Philippines that offer the IB PYP in their Elementary schools. For further information about the IB and its programs, visit http://www.ibo.org
