What is the MYP?
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a framework for learning for 11-16 year olds. Rich in personal creativity, self-sufficiency and academic curiosity, the MYP aims to broaden perspectives, encouraging adolescents to communicate and collaborate with those of different cultures and backgrounds, and critically assess their choices and the world around them. It is an educational brand with a reputation for combining progressive approaches with academic rigor.
What are the subject aims and objectives?
Under each subject, the IB expects schools to achieve defined aims, skills and objectives while leaving the overall content up to the school. In some subjects there is a more prescriptive framework of topics that need to be included in the curriculum. Aims and objectives to be covered by all students include:
Knowledge and Understanding
Focuses on gaining the knowledge through the content and developing an understanding of that content.
Concepts
Focuses on the enduring big ideas we want learners to explore throughout their lives.
Skills
Focuses on what learners will be able to do to demonstrate their understanding.
Attitudes
Focuses on attitudes developed through the IB Learner Profile, which helps students make sound judgments.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career – related Certificate). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
