Inquiry-based Learning

CIS believes in forming the WHOLE child.

Inquiry-based learning is an approach to education in which students are fully engaged by asking questions, reaching for answers, making bigger-picture connections, reflecting on learning, and taking action.

Inquiry-based learning has proven the following:

  • Leads to more motivated students
  • Helps develop information literacy
  • Helps develop critical thinking skills
  • Results in better long term retention of information
  • Helps develop deeper understanding of subjects

Google Classroom

As a Google of Education school, CIS uses Google Classroom, an online collaboration tool that our students and teachers use for assignments, class work, and communication from Grades 3 to 12. Google Classroom also encourages parent participation as teachers may invite parents to this platform to share summaries of student work and to receive automated email summaries of student progress and class announcements.

Seesaw

For Early Years up to Grade 5, we use the Seesaw platform for parent communication and student updates. Teachers regularly post updates, whether in the form of photos, videos, and documents to keep our parents and guardians up to date with that is happening in the classroom. With Seesaw, there is personalized parent-teacher communication when it comes to the child’s progress, updates, and classroom / school events.
