EAL Program

In Cebu International School, we accept students from different nationalities. Many of them are bilingual or even trilingual therefore they are exposed to more than one language, or will come from a country where little or no English is used.

The EAL (English as an Additional Language) program in CIS is a learning support provided to students with minimal ability to speak, read, or write in English. An English assessment test is provided during the admissions process and based on the student’s results, they may be assigned to the following levels: Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. There is suitable support provided for students at all stages of the language acquisition continuum.

“Pupils learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) share many common characteristics with pupils whose mother tongue is English, and many of their learning needs are similar to those of other children and young people learning in our schools. However, EAL pupils also have distinct and different needs from other pupils, by virtue of the fact that they are learning in and through another language, and that they come from backgrounds and communities with different understandings and expectations of education, language and learning.”
