The meeting was attended by the different Athletics & Activities Director of 7 chartered schools of ISAC, namely Ms. Cathy Ong of Brent International School Manila, Ms. Sheila Taylor of Brent International School Baguio, Ms. Michelle Almanzor of Brent International School Subic, Mr. Lewis Keens of The British School Manila, Ms. Kristen Simpson of Faith International Academy, Ms. Rea Villa of Southville International School and Colleges and our very own Mr. Ace Pierra of Cebu International School.

One of the highlights of the meeting is the confirmation of CIS to host the third season of ISAC, for Girls Football and Boys Basketball.

Welcome back to the CIS school year 2017-2018!

Dear CIS Students, Parents, Faculty, Staff and Community Members,

Welcome back to the the CIS 2017-2018 School Year!

We are all very excited to welcome all new and returning families back to school for the new year. This year we will continue many of the wonderful programs and practices from the past while including some new ways of connecting with families throughout the year. We will continue to provide a variety of wonderful academic and after school activities for all of our students and seek to build on past practices as well.

Three of our biggest changes for the year include that we have added a Preschool 2 program to our early childhood center (and are pleased to see the classroom filling up with our youngest learners) and secondly, we are now offering a full day PS 3 and 4 option running from 7:30am-2:30pm. We are excited that our new PS 2 program and whole day PS3-4 option will help families be a part of the CIS community at an earlier age and to address the needs of families with children over a range of ages who could not attend CIS prior to having these new programs.

Lastly, we are very excited about our new reporting plan we have in place for the coming year.

It all starts on Tuesday August 8th with our new Whole School Community Orientation. All families, returning and new to CIS are invited to come to campus from 3-5 PM to meet new faculty, connect or reconnect with families and our awesome PTA, and hear about what your child will be learning in the coming weeks and months of school. Our new reporting process is based on sharing what is coming up for your child, along with traditional reporting at the end of each marking period.

To that end, we are implementing a parent view into online student portfolios where you will be able to see current work of your child with teacher comments in “real time” so that you can be a part of the ongoing conversation of learning. Our conferences will look at goal setting and what lies ahead for your child’s learning and areas you can support the learning. And our report cards will continue to connect you with your child’s summative learning at the end of each marking period. You will receive more e-letters about the reporting process throughout the year.

We cannot wait to see you all on August 8th for our Whole Community Orientation and throughout the year!

Dr. Ted Mockrish, Ed.D, K-12 Principal
Ms. Maike Silver, Elementary Assistant Principal & PYP Coordinator

Class of ’17 College Acceptances

The Class of 2017 has achieved a wide range of admissions to universities around the globe.

Of the 48 students in the class, 38 have been admitted to universities, 4 are taking a gap year and 6 are awaiting results or waiting for the application season to apply for the country of their choice.

This year, CIS introduced Naviance as a tool and platform for most of the college applications to the USA and Europe. The use of the electronic document exchange service of Naviance enabled the school to send more than 100 transcripts and recommendation letters to a huge number of institutions mostly in the USA and Europe. This allowed for a savings of over Php150k in courier fees! In addition, the Naviance platform is a storage for all the documents pertaining to a student’s application package.

Last March, all students and parents of Grade 11 met with the college counselor to discuss options for university studies and a timeline/plan was created for each G11 student. As an incoming senior next school year, each student will be ready with a timeline for their college applications. Parents were also introduced to Naviance where they can track their son/daughter’s applications to universities.

In addition to top universities like NYU, UCLA and McGill, one of our students was admitted to the Seoul National University which is one of the top-ranking and highly selective universities in Korea.

As of this month, 2 students received 100% tuition scholarships and a few others received tuition scholarships based on academic merit. There were also conditional scholarship offers which are dependent on the IB Diploma exam results after July.

End of School Year Message from the Admin Team

Dear CIS Community,

As we end the 2016-17 school year, we would like to congratulate all of our students for successfully completing their year, and in particular the grades 5 and 8 students who were promoted into middle and high school respectively, and of course, our dear graduates who are now heading all over the world. They did a great job, earning acceptance from 90+ colleges!

We would like to thank our staff and faculty for their dedication to providing an environment that allows students to flourish in, and we wish those who are moving on to new challenges all the best.

And last but not least, thanks to you, parents, as really, you are the ones at home that provide the support and encouragement our students need to do well. Of course, we could not operate without the extra help from those of you in the PTA and on the CIS Board of Trustees, so extra thanks to you too!

All the best for a restful summer vacation! We hope you all get quality family time, and that you all keep safe wherever you may be. For those of you who are moving on next year, all the best in your new world, and we hope your memories of Cebu will be a comfort to you when you feel nostalgic.

Warm Regards,

The CIS Admin Team
(Dr. Underwood, Dr. Mockrish, & Ms. Silver)
